Way Taekwondo
Club Code of Conduct
As an officially affiliated club with British Taekwondo, Way Taekwondo is committed to providing a safe, inclusive, and encouraging environment for everyone. Sporting excellence is only achieved through the highest moral, ethical, and sporting standards.
By joining or visiting our club, all members, instructors, volunteers, parents, and spectators agree to abide by this Code of Conduct, which strictly aligns with the policies of our National Governing Body, British Taekwondo.
1. General Conduct & Core Values
- Respect & Inclusivity: Treat everyone with equal respect regardless of age, disability, gender, race, religion, or ability. We operate a strict zero-tolerance policy against discrimination, harassment, bullying, and victimization.
- Sportsmanship: Win with humility and lose with dignity. Encourage fellow members and respect your opponents, referees, and instructors at all times.
- Safety First: Prioritize the safety of yourself and others. Do not engage in reckless behavior, and always follow the health and safety guidelines set out by the club and British Taekwondo.
2. Expectations of Students
- Focus & Discipline: Listen to your instructors, follow directions promptly, and do not disrupt the class.
- Preparation: Arrive on time, wearing the correct, clean uniform (dobok), with all necessary protective equipment. Maintain good personal hygiene and keep fingernails and toenails trimmed for safety.
- Honesty: Train with integrity. Never use your martial arts skills outside the dojang (training hall) unless in absolute self-defense.
3. Expectations of Parents, Carers & Spectators
- Positive Support: Encourage all students and applaud good effort. Never mock or shout at a child for making a mistake or losing a sparring match.
- Respect the Coaches: Do not interfere with training or coach your child from the sidelines. Let the qualified instructors do their jobs.
- Respect Officials: Accept the decisions of referees and officials during competitions without public argument or hostility.
4. Expectations of Instructors & Staff
- Professionalism: Maintain professional boundaries with all students. Always lead by example in conduct, language, and attitude.
- Safeguarding: Prioritize the physical and emotional welfare of all members, especially children and vulnerable adults.
- Qualifications: Ensure all coaching qualifications, DBS checks, first aid, and safeguarding training remain up to date according to British Taekwondo standards.
5. Digital & Online Conduct
(In accordance with the British Taekwondo Acceptable Use Policy)
- Respectful Communication: Any use of the club’s digital platforms, WhatsApp groups, or social media must be respectful. Cyberbullying, harassment, or posting offensive material will result in immediate disciplinary action.
- Data Privacy: Do not share personal information, photos, or videos of other members online without their explicit consent (or the consent of a parent/guardian for minors).
6. Reporting & Safeguarding
Way Taekwondo follows British Taekwondo’s “Low-Level Concerns” and Safeguarding policies.
- If you witness any behavior that makes you uncomfortable—even if it seems minor (e.g., inappropriate language, favoritism, or over-friendliness)—you must report it to the Club Welfare Officer immediately.
- For serious breaches of this Code of Conduct, members will be subject to the British Taekwondo Disciplinary Code, which may result in suspension or termination of membership.
